Daily Cause List – How to Access & Read Court Cause Lists Online

Why this matters

The cause list is the heartbeat of the court. Learn how to check your case item number, understand abbreviations like 'Misc.' and 'Adj.', and use the eCourts Services App to stay updated without calling your lawyer every day.

The "Cause List" is the daily timetable of a court. If you are a litigant, checking the cause list is the only way to know if your case is actually being heard today or if the judge is on leave.

What is a Cause List?

It is a list of cases scheduled for hearing on a specific date, broken down by courtroom and judge. It tells you the "Item Number" of your case.

How to Read It

  • Supplementary List: Fresh matters or urgent applications listed last minute. Taken up first.
  • Daily/Ordinary List: Regular ongoing matters (Evidence, Arguments).
  • Abbreviations:
    • Misc.: Miscellaneous hearing (procedural steps)
    • Adj.: Adjournment
    • Ex-parte: Proceeding without the other side

How to Check Online

1. Go to services.ecourts.gov.in or use the eCourts Services App.
2. Select State & District.
3. Search by "Case Number" or "Advocate Name".
4. Look for "Next Date" and "Stage".

Pro Tip: Always check the list the evening before (around 8 PM). Lists are dynamic and can change.
